Master Your Mane

The Beard Manners Daily Beard Care Routine Guide.

A truly magnificent beard doesn't happen by accident. Of course genetics deter the size of your beard but it is the result of consistent, loving care that gives you the very best out of the beard that you do have. If you've been wondering how to use your arsenal of beard oils, balms, butters, and washes effectively, this guide is here to point you in the right direction.

Breaking Down the Products:

Oil vs. Balm vs. Butter

Understanding the difference between these three core products will help you use them correctly and achieve the best results.

1. Beard Oil

  • What it is: A blend of carrier oils (like jojoba, argan, almond) and essential oils for scent.
  • Key Function: Moisturizing the skin. It is the thinnest product and is essential for eliminating the dreaded "beard itch" and "beardruff" (dandruff).
  • Best Time to Use: Daily, in the morning and evening particularly after showering.

2. Beard Balm

  • What it is: A semi-solid product made from oils, butters (like shea), and a holding agent (like beeswax).
  • Key Function: Styling and Protection. It provides a light-to-medium hold to tame flyaways and gives a fuller appearance.
  • Best Time to Use: Daily, right after applying beard oil and particularly when your beard could do with a tidy up or needs the extra hold.

3. Beard Butter

  • What it is: A softer, lighter cream composed mainly of natural butters (shea, mango, cocoa) and conditioning oils, with no wax.
  • Key Function: Deep Conditioning. It is designed for maximum softness and is excellent for intense overnight conditioning.
  • Best Time to Use: Daily, as a treatment, or nightly before bed for intense softness.

4. Beard Wash

  • Do NOT use the shampoo or soap you use for your head/body. These are formulated to remove oil (sebum) entirely, which will leave your beard hair brittle, dry, and itchy.
  • A dedicated Beard Wash is milder and pH-balanced to cleanse effectively while retaining your beard's necessary moisture barriers and oils

Now let’s get to the application side of your Daily Beard Care Ritual (Consistency is Key!)
Your daily routine focuses on cleansing, moisturising, and styling. This should take less than 5 minutes!

Moisturise the skin beneath and softens the hair:
  • Dispense 3 - 5 drops of beard oil onto each side of your face. Massage into the skin and through the beard.

Neaten the beard to your desired style:
  • Scrape the required amount of balm (pea size for smaller beards and grape size for larger) and place into the palm of your hand. Spread between both hands and then apply evenly into your beard. Use a brush/comb and a hair dryer (a little heat with soften the beard) to style your beard and then let the balm take natural hold.

Deeply condition your beard:
  • Much like with balm, scrape out the required amount of beard butter and thoroughly massage it into your beard and skin. Then leave to soak in.

Washing your beard:
  • Rinse your beard with water daily (typically while in the shower). Aim to complete a more thorough wash using your beard shampoo 2 to 3 times per week.

Stick to this regimen, and you'll quickly transform your facial hair from a wild mess into a refined masterpiece. Full of Beard Manners - Happy growing!
